Man City blindsided by Ronaldo’s firm desire to link up with Pep Guardiola in 2026

Pep Guardiola’s future seems somewhat, up to and including the current campaign, still unsigned – there are rumors that Pep may extend his contract with Man City by one year, but his plans beyond that remain ambiguous.

There is nothing more that the Catalan could do to prove himself in the Premier League, but the two more premier league titles and maybe another UEFA champions league is all that will write him off as the greatest manager of his generation, or of all time.

Ronaldo has a simple message for Pep Guardiola, saying “Please come to Portugal to join me in 2026”.

His short-term role at the Etihad Stadium will be clarified shortly, and Stan Collymore has asked a question that will be very relevant to Pep Guardiola also.

Comparisons with Sir Alex Ferguson will always go on, but even he could not achieve what Pep did here – four successive English top-flight titles.

And if it were not for Liverpool’s astonishing 2019/20 season the City would have clinched seven successive titles and that too more dominantly than ever before in the annals of football in England.

Having clinched the Spanish league with Barcelona Pep proceeded to watch his Bayern Munich team set new records in the Bundesliga.

Early doubts on whether the 53-year-old could do similar in arguably the strongest league in the world have been answered to the positive.

With that in mind, there is nothing much left for him to gain, in management, apart from helping to coach an international team.

To that end, according to L’Equipe, Ronaldo is eyeing the Brazilian Football Federation presidency in the March 2026 elections before trying to lure the Catalan.

Pep has always been known for ‘Joga Bonito’ (Beautiful football) and one can only think what a job it would better suited to him to lead the Selecao.

Of course, whether he would be willing to take the role at that point is quite another matter by which time he would arguably require a sabbatical.

However, that would all hinge upon the former Barcelona and Real Madrid man first becoming the head coach and, to this end, the goal is by no means set in stone.
