For lovers of hoops, especially within this local region, there is much to celebrate as a boy’s basketball tournament is scheduled to return to the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, during the holiday break.
Mirabito Coaches versus Cancer Boys Invitational basketball information was unveiled during a Tip Off Breakfast at the Arena Club on Wednesday.
The eight high school local teams will participate in the tournament on the 27th and the 28th of December.
And for years up to 2008, the Arena had been the playing venue of the Stop-DWI Holiday Classic before the holidays.
The proceeds of this tourney should go to the American Cancer Society.
The society’s Associate Director for Development Jamie Kane says it s, as usual, very unfortunate, but someone will be diagnosed with cancer during this period whether for themselves or their loved one.
They’ll be asking themselves what do I need to do?” My husband got sick of cancer, my wife got sick of cancer, my child got sick of cancer, what should I do? They are going to call the American Cancer Society and if it’s Christmas Eve or Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day we are going to answer the phone. Through the donations, which by the way can only be done with a live person, we are able to do that, said Kane.
With the help of Mirabito Energy Products the admission fee will be only $2.
