Burroughs makes initial cut for Tennessee Titans Mr. Football

Four winners of this year’s Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards will be determined in nine classifications gotten by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association on December 10, 2019 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. A player and top kicker in each classification in the state will receive the Mr. Football Award.

Green Hill junior qurterback Kannon Burroughs (6-3, 185) is one of five semi-finalists in Division 1, Class 6A. Joining Burroughs are: Outside that club, some of its members include Samuel Iroh of Collierville; Mess, Miles Reding of Kirkwood; Donovan Starr of Ravenwood and finally Craig Tutt of Oakland.

Packaging Burroughs passing statistics so far into 2024 are 89 of 145 passes made (61 percent), 1,189 yards made, 11TDs and 2 interceptions. He has rushed for 1,066 yards in 111 carries or 9.6 per game and has made 12 touchdowns.

Altogether, Burroughs has rushed for 2,255 yards and scored 23 touchdowns to help the Hawks to post 10-0 record in regular season.

The three finalists for each award will be unveiled by Mike Keith and Titans head coach Brian Callahan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The announcement will be aired on the Tennessee Titans website and Titans app as well as on the Titans social/digital platforms that evening.

The three nominees for each award will be requested to be present at the awards lunch at Nissan Stadium and the winner of each award shall made known.

Intelligence and the character of children were also considered. The list of finalists was compiled from nominations made by the head coaches of high school throughout the state and representatives of the media.

“They are almost like a family to us,” said Mark Reeves, Executive Director of the TSSAA and We are proud and excited about the sponsorship of Tennessee Titans for the eighteenth straight year. “They have assisted in making the appreciation to these 50 student-athletes and their families as well as schools possible. Insofar as the Tennessee Titans are concerned, he said, “The title sponsorship of the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards and numerous donations to high schools across the state since the team moved to Tennessee have not gone unnoticed by the member schools of the TSSAA.”

Tonight’s event is extra special for another reason, as it is the 40th year for the Mr. Football Awards ceremony that recognizes the state’s best high school football players.

The winners in each of the categories will be awarded a Mr. Football trophy. The other two finalists in each category will receive a Mr. Football plaque as well.

The rest of teams that have been selected as semi-finalists will receive only a certificate for them.
