Anthony Joshua’s career tested a bitter blow after lacking the chance be a three-time world heavyweight champion the moment he was knocked out by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium with 96,000 fans. This has been of keen interest since his loss and now former WBC cruiserweight champion, Tony Bellew has offered his opinion on whom Mayweather should fight again.
It was thought that Joshua would engage in an immediate rematch with Dubois but due to Joshua’s injury it became clear this would not happen.
Even though ‘AJ’ is still at a tender age of 35 years, it means that he has limited fights left in his career, and therefore the best fights, the best opposition, and for the most amount of money will be important going forward.
While the fight with Fury has been discussed for years, there is no still assurance that this occurs because of a potential trilogy with the ‘Gypsy King’ and Usyk.
However, the next fight is probably the most crucial for the contender so far, a defeat may be the end of his career, but the victory may reactivate potential world title bouts.
When asked by talkSPORT who Joshua should face during the rematch, fan-favourite Tony Bellew has made his choice.
“It’s a hard one because I just think he would have wanted the rematch.”
“It’s an event any time he steps in the boxing ring, if AJ just says he is coming back against Charlie Chaplin it sells out Wembley.”
“The truth is he is very big in the global arena and in boxing not to mention the heavyweight category alone.”
“It never really matters who he is fighting, everybody just wants to see him fight again again.”
“His nickname is not important for me There are so many nicknames But who wouldn’t want to see him face Dillian Whyte once more?”
“The very first fight that they had was great and to mi it really are there are actually so many other fights as well.”
Bellew has stated that he would love to see Joshua get into the ring with Dillian Whyte once again in a domestic fight.
The two initially were scheduled to face off in August 2023 but Whyte was removed from the match after failing a drug test.
However, he was later allowed to continue playing the game after it was proved that the cause of the adverse finding was due to contaminated supplement.
Whyte has been cleared for a return to the ring on December 15 against Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar.
As to which names will be announced as Joshua’s opponent in the upcoming fight it remains to be seen, but Whyte’s fight would probably be met with much enthusiasm from the audience.
